Group A

Offered: Fridays 8:30-3:00, 3:30-5:30
Age group: 4-6 years old

This small group program focuses on school readiness and socialization with peers for kindergarten students. Children will acquire and strengthen the necessary play skills, social skills, and self-advocacy skills required to develop and maintain friendships. Alongside their peers, children will learn to communicate and interact with others in a natural setting, will learn to follow classroom rules and routines, and will learn to cooperate across a variety of play and academic activities.

Guided by a lead ABA therapist and supported by additional ABA therapists, children follow a group schedule that mirrors that of a school day.

Some areas of focus include:

  • Recognizing emotions and identifying the emotions of others.
  • Problem solving; identifying big and small problems and how to respond to each accordingly.
  • Academic activities; completing independent and group work in the classroom.
  • Participating in group games and exhibiting good sportsmanship.
  • Conversation skills; starting a conversation, staying on topic, and answering others’ questions.
  • Understanding relationships and appropriate behaviours with those in their social circles.

Group B

Offered: Monday, Friday 4:00-6:00 OR Tuesday, Thursday 3:30-5:30
Age group: 6-8 years

This small group program for children aged 6-8 focuses on prosocial behaviour, increasing independence during various daily activities, following group learning/classroom expectations and routines, and completing academic tasks both independently and in a group. This group provides a supportive environment to learn about, practice, and problem solve in different social situations.

The students will follow a timetable that mirrors that of a school schedule, guided by a lead ABA therapist and supported by additional ABA therapists.

Some areas of focus include:

  • Conversation skills; maintaining a conversation, staying on topic, and answering others.
  • Following instructions within group activities.
  • Academic activities; completing independent and group work in the classroom.
  • Participating in group games, following the rules, and exhibiting good sportsmanship.
  • Problem solving in social situations.
  • Decision making and self-advocacy.
  • Teamwork and cooperation with peers.
  • Understanding unwritten social rules; personal space, good hygiene, body language.

Group C

Offered: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays 4:30-6:30
Age group: 10-12 years

This small group program for youth aged 10-12 focuses on prosocial behaviour, following group learning routines/expectations, and self-monitoring.

It is facilitated by a lead ABA therapist and aided by additional ABA therapists.

Some areas of focus include:

  • Conversation skills; responding to others’ questions and comments, contributing to the conversation, sharing interests, and avoiding interrupting.
  • Using humour appropriately, being a good friend, resolving arguments and disagreements.
  • Practicing cooperation, teamwork, and flexibility in difficult situations.
  • Adjusting to new social situations.
  • Taking responsibility, decision making, and self-advocacy.
  • Completing academic activities both independently and in a group.
  • Following the rules during group activities and being a good sport.
  • Problem solving in social situations.

Drop in Groups

Various times offered, various age ranges.

An ABA approach is used to develop communication and cooperation skills within an unstructured small group format. A more affordable option to 1:1 and social skills groups.
